People might engage in activism because of the injustices done to them or those that they have witnessed done to others, they may also engage in activism because they identify with particular struggles and social movements that align with how they relate themselves and their family to social and economic structures.

I think that the Christian religion likes to put their beliefs on everything they do and they believe that they are used by god as a vessel so they think god is speaking through them

The religious dedicate themselves to serving a diety. If they believe the actions they take on social issues are matters of rightciousness and piety then they will automatically be more motivated then those who arent. The religious see this as a sacred duty, the irreligious fundamentally cannot.
